In January 2008 the Ministry of Defence (MOD) announced its intent to release the Princess Royal Barracks, Deepcut for disposal. The MOD has continued to develop options for the units currently based at Deepcut with a final decision expected in early 2012.
Since the inclusion of Princess Royal Barracks in Surrey Heath Borough Council’s Core Strategy as a strategic housing location, Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO)(part of the MOD) has been working up proposals for a new, mixed use residential-led development designed in accordance with best practice in sustainable development. DIO’s proposals are also being designed in accordance with Surrey Heath Borough Council’s detailed guidance for the development of Deepcut as set out in the Deepcut Supplementary Planning Document. Surrey Heath Borough Council’s Core Strategy and the Deepcut Supplementary Planning Document can be viewed using the links to the bottom of this page.
In order to inform the development proposals to be taken forward through the planning process, DIO is consulting with the local community. Two public exhibitions have been held – the first on Wednesday 7 December 2011and the second on Friday 10 - Saturday 11 February 2012. The exhibition boards from the second exhibition can be viewed using the links to the bottom of the page.
The opportunity to comment on the proposals presented at the second public exhibition has now closed. DIO are now considering the comments received and further work is being undertaken on the masterplan and supporting documents before the submission of an outline planning application. A Consultation Statement will be submitted with the planning application summarising the comments received and explaining how the proposals have changed in response or why changes have not been possible.
Whilst the ability to comment on the DIO’s proposals have closed at this stage, there will be further opportunities to comment on the proposals at the application stage.
This website is updated at regular intervals. So please stay in touch with the proposals for the comprehensive and sustainable redevelopment of Princess Royal Barracks.
